Jock MacInnes R.G.I. (Scottish B.1943) studied at the Glasgow School of Art where he graduated in 1966.

Like many Artists Jock MacInnes spent his early career teaching Art - in his case at the Glasgow School of Art. Throughout his time teaching Jock continued with his own painting regularly exhibiting and winning art Awards and Scholarships.

Demand for Jock MacInnes paintings increased to such an extent that he left Glasgow Art School to concentrate on full time painting in 1999. Prior to this MacInnes had been elected as a member of the prestigious RGI in 1988 and joined the Council of the RGI in 1995.

Although MacInnes' paintings are influenced by the Scottish Colourist artists, he describes himself as a 'Modernist' at heart. And so he draws upon inspiration from English artists such as Nicholson, Scott and Wallis together with European artists Matisse, Braque and Morandi.

MacInnes has a recurring fascination with marine painting. But he also produces stunning landscape and still life paintings. Unusually he prepares all his own painting grounds, a type of gesso on board. Then he draws and paints on to the surface, he also abrades and scrapes into the canvas. In doing so MacInnes creates a strong feeling of atmosphere and mood.

Collectors of Jock MacInnes paintings include: The Dick Institute, Kilmarnock; Paisley Art Institute; Nationwide Building Society; Royal Bank of Scotland; and Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities. More on Jock MacInnes
