Even as a young schoolboy Joyce practiced by constantly sketching in his notebooks. After completing his studies at Medford High School , his love of art and the sea was more fully developed at the Art Institute of Boston, where his training prepared him for a career in both commercial and fine art. His marine illustrations, based on the whaling industry and the famous ships of Mystic, Connecticut , were used on calendars for many years. While working in Boston , Joyce taught art to adults at the Butera School of Art.
He is listed in Who's Who in American Art. Joyce's work is in the collections of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem , MA ; the Mobile Museum of Art in Mobile , AL ; and the Ventura County Maritime Museum in Oxnard , CA . More on Marshall Woodside Joyce
