Danish warships may have been part of convoys during wartime or in other conflicts. Convoys are groups of ships that travel together, often protected by larger or more heavily armed ships...

Carl Frederik Sørensen (8 February 1818, Besser, Samsø – 24 January 1879, Copenhagen) was a Danish artist who specialized in marine painting. His paintings not only attracted customers in Denmark but also in the courts of St Petersburg, London and Athens.

Sørensen attended the Danish Academy from 1843 to 1846. He took part in the decoration of the Thorvaldsen Museum in 1844. He studied perspective under Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg at the end of 1845. In 1846, he travelled to the Mediterranean, in 1853–54 he visited Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, France and England. Almost every year he went on sea voyages. He took a special interest in the weather and its effects on the sea, developing his own recognizable style. He also painted more idyllic scenes, full of charm and atmosphere. His seascapes won him widespread popularity, especially those he painted under the First Schleswig War when he sailed with the Navy around Helgoland (1849) and in the Baltic (1850) where he depicted the Danish fleet in combat. In former times, it was commercially dependent on fishing. The decline in fishing, however, caused a shift in commercial emphasis, and the town is now primarily a popular seaside resort. Tayport, also known as Ferry-Port on Craig, is a town and burgh, and parish, in the county of Fife, Scotland, acting as a commuter town for Dundee.

Tayport lies close to the north east tip of Fife. To the north it looks across the River Tay to Broughty Ferry and Broughty Castle. Joseph (Joe) Milne (1857-1911)
was born in Edinburgh in 1857, the elder brother of the painter William Watt Milne (1869-1949) and the father of John Maclauchlan Milne (1886-1957) qv. He painted mainly in oils, but occasionally in watercolours, producing land and seascapes which were notable for their strong, bright tones. When working in watercolour, he made free use of bodycolour. Although he lived much of his life in Edinburgh, he worked for a time in Dundee and also in Ayrshire. He exhibited extensively at both the Royal Scottish Academy, from 1877 until 1902 and the Glasgow Institute from 1880-1902; he also had 7 works shown in London, at the RA between 1887 and 1908. Early titles often had a genre content. Favourite subjects were the coasts of Scotland and working rivers, particularly “The Silvery Tay”. Joseph Milne died in Edinburgh in 1911, at the age of 53.
